The Left 4 Dead games are still some of the most unique zombie co-op shooters ever released. And yet, it’s been a decade since a censored version of Left 4 Dead 2 hit Australian shores.
But while a third Left 4 Dead game isn’t officially on the cards, Warner Bros. today announced what is possibly might be the next best thing: a new co-op zombie shooter from the makers of the original Left 4 Dead.
In a release on the Turtle Rock site, the two studios announced that Back 4 Blood was being designed as a premium AAA co-op zombie shooter, one that aimed to add “new features” and modern technology into the spirit and style of co-op shooters like Left 4 Dead.
“We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains,” Turtle Rock Studios design director and co-founder Chris Ashton said.
The official FAQ notes that Back 4 Blood is launching on PC, PS4 and Xbox One first – although a future Switch release isn’t being ruled out – and that it’ll feature both PVP and a campaign mode. “You’ll be able to shoot up a lot of zombies like in Left 4 Dead, but there’s a whole lot of new stuff in Back 4 Blood which makes it unique,” it adds.
There’s no screenshots or footage of Back 4 Blood yet, however. So instead, let’s reminisce over some Left 4 Dead gameplay.
I miss Left 4 Dead.
